The Champ-de-Mars, in Paris, was transformed into an open-air school for the Grande Dictée des Jeux, on the afternoon of Friday April 12. Nearly 3,000 people took part in the exercise. An activity offered by the Book Festival.

A life-size dictation took place at the Champ-de-Mars (Paris), on the afternoon of Friday April 12. Nearly 3,000 spelling enthusiasts of all ages gathered in front of the Eiffel Tower. They set themselves a challenge, 100 days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Participants had to transcribe three dictations revolving around renowned contemporary authors and athletes selected to participate in the Olympic Games. An activity offered by the Book Festival.

Reconciling sport and reading

The difficulty increased between each text, like the motto of the Olympic Games : “Faster, higher, stronger.” Reconciling sport and reading: the exercise seems successful, but the event also brought together generations. “We always tend to say that the youngest are not interested in that, and that’s actually false, since they are there,” rejoiced Agnès Martin-Lugand, novelist and author of a text for dictation. The Great Dictation of the Games lasted four hours.
