He is a personality that will have marked an entire generation. Maïté’s famous recipes have marked the history of television. With a candid talk that caused debate and her beautiful accent, the restaurateur thrilled the taste buds of many French people. With his show The Kitchen of the Musketeers, she introduced many viewers to good gourmet and generous cuisine. But there you have it, fame without having tired of Maïté. Guest on the show It starts todaybroadcast on France 2, this Monday, April 25, the granddaughter of Maïté gave her news. Her grandmother seems to be enjoying her retirement to the full.
At the beginning of the week, Faustine Bollaert has decided to present a program on the special links between grandparents and grandchildren. If Maïté was not present alongside her granddaughter, Camille Ordonez, the latter told how the famous cook was doing. “She is doing very well! She is enjoying her retirement with us, still in her village of Rion-des-Landes [dans le sud-ouest de la France]), reassured the young woman. Now 83 years old, she no longer seems to want to appear on television sets. “This media side passed to her. In 2010, she chose to retire and be quiet”, says Camille Ordonez. She describes the kitchen specialist as being a “exceptional grandmother” and nicknamed her “Granny Maite”.
At the time of her grandmother’s success, Camille Ordonez was not born. She remembers that her grandmother showed her videos of her appearances on television. “She started showing me her shows when I was seven or eight years old, with my sister. When she looked after us at night, when we slept at her house, she played ‘La Cuisine des Mousquetaires’ for us, on tape, to fall asleep“, she explains.
A somewhat daring request
On the set, Camille Ordonez took advantage of his passage to return to his passage in Top Chef objective, in 2018. The candidate has very good memories of her meeting with chef Philippe Etchebest. However, she did not appreciate that the production asked her to imitate her grandmother. “And that’s when I said to myself: ‘I only came for this, only to make the audience, only to talk about my grandmother'”she laments.
