The Grand Est and the Pays de la Loire are the two regions where the French declare themselves the most, “very happy”, according to the Territories Barometer published on Tuesday 16 November carried out by the research firm Elabe and the Institut Montaigne in partnership with SNCF and franceinfo. In these two regions, 42% of French people say they are “very happy”.

The inhabitants of Brittany and Pays de la Loire (73%) as well as the inhabitants of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (70%) are those who observe the most that their territory is doing well, while it is in Pays de Loire. that residents are the most optimistic about their personal futures (61%).

Conversely, it is in New Aquitaine and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region that residents are the most pessimistic about the future of French society (63%). It is in the Hauts-de-France region that residents are most worried about letting their children move around during the day (35%).

The Territories Barometer also points out that for the inhabitants of Hauts-de-France (34%) and Bretons (30%), the inhabitants of their region are the main asset. Conversely, for Provençaux (39%) and Ile-de-France residents (38%), this is the first fault.

It is in Brittany (75%) and Bourgogne Franche Comté (71%) that people feel the safest in their neighborhood. It is in Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France that this feeling is only shared by 57% and 58% of inhabitants respectively.

Finally, the survey points out that it is largely in Brittany, for 69% (thirteen points higher than the national average) that one least plans to leave the region in which one lives. The opposite feeling in Ile-de-France where 27% of inhabitants plan to leave the region if they had the possibility (i.e. six points higher than the national average).

* This survey was carried out on the internet between September 10 and October 7, 2021 with a sample of 10,054 people representative of the French population residing in each metropolitan administrative region aged 18 and over. The margin of error is between 0.3 and 1 point.
