The Grand Chancellery of the Legion of Honor has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Gérard Depardieu, franceinfo learned on Wednesday January 3, confirming information from the Parisian. This procedure follows sexual remarks made by the actor in North Korea about a little girl. They were relayed by the program “Complément d’Enquête”, on France 2.
“Given the nature of these remarks, the Grand Chancellor has warned Mr. Gérard Depardieu of the opening of a disciplinary procedure”, we can in fact read in a letter from the institution, which Franceinfo obtained. The comedian “can now produce his explanations and his defense by means of a brief prepared by himself or his lawyer”she adds in this letter dated December 22.
“The ball is in his court”
Gérard Depardieu is summoned to defend himself, if he wishes. He has a few weeks to do this. “The ball is in his court”, declares a source close to the matter to franceinfo. Afterwards, “the council of the order of the Legion of Honor will then issue an opinion” on possible “disciplinary measures to be taken”specifies the letter.
In the event of a sanction, three scenarios are possible: a reprimand, a suspension or permanent exclusion from the Legion of Honor. If this last option were to be retained, it would be up to the President of the Republic, Grand Master of the institution, to act. The same Emmanuel Macron who affirmed that the Legion of Honor “is not here to preach”on December 20 in the show “C à vous”, on France 5.
