The 2022 Grammy Awards will take place on April 3 in Las Vegas following the recent cancellation of the ceremony due to the meteoric rise in COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant.
The awards show will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, according to a joint statement released Tuesday by the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the CBS network.
The gala was originally scheduled to take place Jan. 31 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles before organizers determined the health risks were too high due to the new wave of the pandemic.
This is the second year in a row that the Grammy Awards have been postponed due to COVID-19.
Singer-songwriter Jon Batiste is the big favorite of the evening with a peak of 11 nominations in various genre categories including R&B, jazz, roots and classical, as well as best video.
Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and HER tied for second with eight nominations each.
The Grammy Awards’ decision to hold its gala on April 3 has had a domino effect in the gala world. That of the CMT awards, which reward the country music industry, was also scheduled for April 3 and will be postponed a little later in the same month.
