The plan was expected during the day. The government assured, Wednesday, July 5, that it would present its “green planning roadmap” In “the next days”after a postponement linked to the riots sparked by the death of Nahel.

The ecological planning council, at the end of which the executive must unveil its plan to achieve France’s objectives in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, was initially scheduled for Wednesday. Instead, a simple work meeting “preparatory” took place around Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée, with the ministers concerned.

Government spokesman Olivier Véran assured that Wednesday’s meeting would allow “take stock before the very next presentation”, “in detail, of all the measures of this ecological planning”.

A 50% drop in emissions by 2030, compared to 1990

Emmanuel Macron, at the end of a previous ecological planning council in January, had recognized that France had to “double” her “exertion rate” to keep its commitments. For the moment, the government quantified in May the effort that each sector of activity will have to make, without going into the details of the measures making it possible to concretize it or its financing.

By 2030, France wants to reduce its emissions by 50% compared to 1990 levels, in accordance with the new objectives of the European Union. Paris wants to be on the path to carbon neutrality by the middle of the century.
