The “center for analysis and the fight against violence against elected officials” will be launched on May 17, Elisabeth Borne’s entourage told franceinfo on Thursday, May 11. If the creation of this structure was announced in mid-March, the date of its launch was not yet known. It is unveiled after the mayor of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) announced his resignation on Wednesday evening following the arson attack on his home, in connection with the highly contested move project of a reception center for asylum seekers.

The launch of the “center for the analysis and fight against violence against elected officials” will be carried out by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Local Authorities, Dominique Faure, it was specified from same source. It was she who announced its creation, in an interview with Paris Match. She detailed the missions of what she then described as a “cell” : “Record these phenomena” And “analyze each incident, to prevent and respond to them in full coordination with the prefectures, the police, the gendarmerie and the prosecutor’s offices”.
In 2022, acts of physical or verbal violence against elected officials increased by 32%, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. In detail, 2,265 complaints and reports of verbal (threats, insults, contempt) or physical violence against elected officials have been recorded.
