The government will make a report to the public prosecutor, after the pro-Palestinian mobilization at Sciences-Po Paris. Prime Minister Gabiel Attal announced it on Wednesday March 13 during the institute’s board of directors, participants report to franceinfo. This report will be made under article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which requires any authority with knowledge of a crime or offense to report it to the courts.
The Union of Jewish Students of France claimed that young people belonging to the association were “taken to task as Jews and Zionists” during a pro-Palestinian mobilization the day before at Sciences Po Paris. Emmanuel Macron, denounced in the Council of Ministers on Wednesday remarks “unspeakable and completely intolerable”.
The management of Sciences Po Paris also indicated on Wednesday evening that it would contact the public prosecutor for acts of an anti-Semitic nature, “in accordance with article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure”. In its press release, Science Po recalls having condemned on Tuesday “these intolerable actions”. An administrative investigation has been opened. “Sciences Po wishes to reiterate its commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and its total firmness against the actions of students which would be contrary to the law or the values of the institution”concludes the establishment.
A “very big concern”
“It’s particularly serious”was indignant Gabriel Attal during the board of directors of Science-Po Paris. “These debates and these mobilizations cannot go against our republican principles”, also declared the head of government. According to participants, he expressed his “very serious concern” and expressed his “determination” so that “extremely firm sanctions be taken”.
“I think that the French are questioning very strongly and very deeply about a form of drift slope linked to an active and dangerous minority”, he added according to these same sources. By contacting the public prosecutor, the government hopes “contribute to the mobilization of services to determine what happened” Tuesday during this mobilization. Political science “has always been and will remain, I hope, the place of debate, the place of confrontation, of points of view, the place, including of mobilization, as has always happened in the past and as I am certain that this will continue to be the case.”declared the Prime Minister.
