The government will release emergency aid of 650 million euros for nursing homes, to be shared between public establishments, associations and private nursing homes, France Inter learned on Tuesday April 23 from the Minister for the Elderly, Fadila Khattabi.

State allocations will increase by 5% in public nursing homes, 5% in the associative sector and 3% in the private sector, according to the minister. The financial situation of nursing homes in France is currently very complicated, partly linked to the explosion in food and energy costs and the rise in salaries. 85% of public nursing homes are in deficit according to a recent survey by the FHF, the French Hospital Federation. Last year, the State released financial support of 100 million euros, aid which has since been fully used.

Beyond this new emergency plan, the government is also considering a simplification of the pricing of nursing homes, with the possible implementation of a structural reform and a new model of governance where the State will take charge of both the care and dependency sections. An experiment should take place soon in around ten voluntary departments.
