The government will provide “financial support” to oyster farmers, indicates Saturday January 6 in a press release sent to France Bleu Normandie the Secretary of State for the Sea Hervé Berville, while the marketing of oysters has been prohibited in several farming areas, notably in Normandy or in the Arcachon basin, after poisoning.

“Since the start of the crisis, the government has stood alongside shellfish farmers”assures France Bleu Normandie Hervé Berville. “As announced, we will provide the necessary financial and fiscal support to each affected company, as soon as they have communicated their loss reports to us”continues the Secretary of State in his press release.

“Communities also have their role to play”

“The State has been, is and will be there, but the communities also have their role to play”however, believes Hervé Berville, who explains having been in contact with the presidents of the regions concerned, “who can also support shellfish farmers with aid dedicated to businesses in difficulty”. “I have no doubt that the regions will also be there” to help communities “in their investments for the modernization of wastewater treatment systems”he finishes.

In recent days, analyzes have revealed the presence of norovirus, responsible for gastroenteritis, in Arcachon but also in Calvados, Manche and Vendée. This situation has led to temporary bans on the marketing of oysters, traditionally very popular at Christmas and New Year.
