The executive does not give up on having a text voted on. A joint committee (CMP) bringing together deputies and senators will be convened “as quickly as possible” to try to find a way out after the rejection of the immigration bill by the National Assembly, government spokesperson Olivier Véran announced on Tuesday, December 12. The presidential camp thus says it wants “debate and seek a compromise between the majority and the opposition”.

“We are looking for this compromise because we consider that the text is important”, he insisted. On the other hand, the government is not “disagree” with the need for a dissolution of the National Assembly, demanded by the RN, reported Olivier Véran.

A CMP, which brings together seven deputies and seven senators behind closed doors to try to agree on a version of the text, could make it possible to arrive at a common version. The majority would, however, be forced to give some weight to the Republicans to reach an agreement. This common version should then be voted on in the Senate and the National Assembly.
