Armament: the government threatens French companies with requisitions

On the Ukrainian front, CAESAR guns. In the Red Sea, Aster air defense missiles. French armaments find themselves at the heart of high-intensity conflicts. The parts are produced in France, but not quickly enough or in large enough quantities. The ministry plans to requisition tools, personnel or force companies to produce war materials as a priority. France wants to supply 80,000 shells to Ukraine in 2024, although it has only delivered 30,000 in two years. The 200 Aster missiles which were to be delivered in 2026 will have to be delivered this summer. While order books are full, why would large groups be reluctant to increase the pace?
Some subcontractors, who supply mechanical parts for both the automobile and defense industries, will “deliver on priority” the automobile sector “who orders in larger volumes”, analyzes Gaspard Schnitzler, research director at IRIS. In Bergerac (Dordogne), the Eurenco group has just reopened a powder factory to arm shells. Its director now says “work seven days a week, 24 hours a day”.
