The executive activated the “emergency attack” level of the Vigipirate system, the highest, on Friday following the murder of teacher Dominique Bernard.

After the activation, on Friday, of the highest level of the Vigipirate plan, the Minister for Transport, Clément Beaune, announced on Monday October 16 the strengthening of security in public transport throughout France. This decision comes following the murder of Dominique Bernard, a French teacher at a high school in Arras, murdered on Friday by a radicalized former student.
“Reinforced vigilance after the passage into Vigipirate emergency attack: tracking down abandoned luggage, more frequent patrols, alert messages to call everyone to be vigilant… We will take even more action in the coming days”wrote the minister on the social network X, without further details.
The minister added that he had gathered in the afternoon “transport operators, Ile-de-France” with Valérie Pécresse, president of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), the organizing authority for Ile-de-France transport “and throughout France, to strengthen our security”.
