The government spokesperson, Olivier Véran, will travel to Beaucaire (Gard) on Friday September 15, franceinfo learned from his entourage. This visit takes place as part of the International Day of Democracy and especially on the eve of the political return of the National Rally (RN) in this same city.

Olivier Véran, also in charge of Democratic Renewal, will participate in an exchange with residents, at the invitation of the president of the community of communes, Juan Martinez, close to the presidential party. The government spokesperson will discuss with them their “vision and their ideas to renew democratic life, at the local and national level”according to those around him.

It is an understatement to say that he will arrive in hostile territory: Beaucaire has been led by the RN since 2014. Its mayor, Julien Sanchez, was re-elected in 2020 and since 2022, four out of six Gard deputies have come from Marine Le’s party. Pen.
