Prisca Thévenot, government spokesperson and minister responsible for democratic renewal, was the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Monday April 8.
Four people were indicted for “assassination”, on the night of Sunday April 7 to Monday April 8, after the death of Shamseddine, a 15-year-old teenager who was severely beaten outside his college in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) , THURSDAY. Other cases of violence around schools have occurred recently. After sending her support and solidarity to Shamseddine’s family, her friends and the educational staff of her school, Prisca Thévenot, government spokesperson, said in “4 Truths” on France 2, Monday: “The issue is one of response and action.”
“Empower” the “adults around the child”
“We must be able to act before this escalates”, believes the Minister Delegate responsible for democratic renewal. Prisca Thévenot suggests, for example, “the establishment of disciplinary councils very early”, “from primary school”. Besides the fact of “put a sanction”a disciplinary council also makes it possible to “at some point make all the adults around the child responsible, and realize that there is something wrong”she argues.
Social networks are catalysts for harassment and often triggers for violence. Should cell phones be banned from entering colleges? “I think we should be able to look at this subject without totem or taboo”estimates the government spokesperson. “There are already establishments testing this type of device”she says.
