The government said it was ready to discuss the autonomy of Guadeloupe, affected by a violent social crisis.
In an attempt to put an end to the violence in Guadeloupe, the Minister of Overseas France made an unexpected announcement. “Some elected officials have raised the question of autonomy from its current status. (…) The government is ready to talk about it“said Sébastien Lecornu Friday November 26. “A good part of the population expects this, but it is not the majority. The question must be asked cautiously, but courageously “, commented the PS senator from Guadeloupe, Victorin Lurel.
“We don’t want Paris to decide for us “, protesters and some local elected officials claim. Sebastian Lecornu therefore decided to take them at their word. A union leader reacted: “Of course, it is a good thing to open this debate. But this is not enough”. The demonstration scheduled for Saturday morning was maintained because, to appease their anger, the protesters want the government to give in on the vaccine obligation against Covid-19 for caregivers.
