A bad memory for many people. A controversial symbol of health crisis management, the TousAntiCovid application, which notably served as a support for the health pass, then the vaccination pass, will be “on break” from Friday, June 30, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday. It is “the end of a chapter”, but not necessarily the end of the story. Compelled by the law repealing the “exceptional regimes” against the Covid, and its deadline set for June 30, the ministry announced on its website that TousAntiCovid “pauses (…) to think about what’s next”.
Created in mid-2020, after the first epidemic wave, first under the name “StopCovid” and for limited use in tracing positive cases and their contacts, the app really took off during the second wave, by making it possible to generate the “travel certificates” then in force.
Its use had further increased with the introduction of the health pass in the summer of 2021, then the vaccination pass in early 2022, at the same time amplifying criticism of a tool accused from the outset of attacking individual freedoms. However, the ministry claims that “the initial objectives of the application have been fulfilled” and adds that its users will be able “always access [leur] notebook and store [leurs] test and vaccination certificates”.
