To deal with the energy crisis, the government unveiled, Thursday, October 6, its sobriety plan intended to make savings by reducing the country’s electricity and gas consumption. Several ministers are expected in the afternoon to unveil the measures decided by the executive. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne will deliver a closing speech at 5 p.m. Follow our live.
The ministers will follow one another. After an introduction by the Minister for Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher at 1:45 p.m., several members of the government must intervene to announce measures: Stanislas Guerini, Minister of Transformation and the Public Service at 2:15 p.m.; Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor at 2:30 p.m., Olivier Klein, Minister Delegate for Housing, and Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate for Transport at 4 p.m.
An effort required from companies. “Faced with the risk of shortage, there is only one way: the reduction of energy consumption”, hammered Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, on August 29, during a meeting organized by the Medef. Again, the government should strongly encourage companies to establish their own sobriety plan.
The call to “consume less”. During his July 14 interviewEmmanuel Macron felt that it was necessary “enter collectively into a logic of sobriety” and that it would therefore be necessary “consume less” gas and electricity in a context of energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the problems of the French nuclear fleet.
