Better preparatory work. This is the solution envisaged by the mediator sent on a mission to Calais by the government, Didier Leschi, who proposes to work better “upstream” dismantling of camps in order to“improve shelters for exiles”. “With the associations (…), we examine the solutions and measures that we could consider”, explained the boss of the French Office for Immigration and Integration (Ofii), Thursday, October 28, on the second day of his mediation mission, in this town of Pas-de-Calais where three activists have been on hunger strike since October 11 to denounce the fate of migrants.

Among these measures, Didier Leschi suggests carrying out a social diagnosis of the populations, but also formulating accommodation and shelter proposals before the camps are dismantled. The Director General of Ofii, himself an actor the dismantling of the Calais Heath five years ago, advises to warn migrants upstream, so that they can gather their personal belongings and their tents. A means, according to him, to alleviate the new procedures for the return of the material that the authorities plan to put in place.
