On Monday, September 25, the government launched a new alcohol prevention campaign, precisely on the trivialization of its consumption among young people. “Also drink water if you consume alcohol, that’s the basis”, we can read on a poster, or even “Don’t insist if your friends don’t want to drink, that’s the basis” , on another.
“Public health is about defining priorities and choosing messages. They can be discussed of course… Not our determination to fight against this scourge of public health”, commented on the social network X the Minister of Health and Prevention, Aurélien Rousseau, while this prevention campaign received a mixed reception.
“This campaign is a little ambiguous”
Some point to the government’s message, which does not encourage young people not to drink and does not warn of the dangers of alcohol but rather calls for reasonable consumption. “This campaign is a little ambiguous. It doesn’t talk about the dangers of alcohol, doesn’t say that we need to reduce our consumption… It talks about precautions”judged Bertrand Basset, president of the association Addictions France, on Sud Radio, Tuesday.
Radio France’s investigation unit recently revealed that the Ministry of Health had canceled two prevention campaigns developed by Public Health France, one of which had nevertheless been ordered by the General Directorate of Health.
