“I don’t want an Orpéa-style scandal”has warned the Minister for Children, Sarah El Haïry, Monday March 25, on BFMTV. To do this, a mission to monitor large groups of micro-crèches will be deployed to combat the risk of mistreatment of babies. This announcement arises from the report on financing models and the quality of reception in these establishments carried out by the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas) and the General Inspectorate of Finance, which it was able to consult and which “says we must try to build a culture of control and evaluation”.

“We cannot take the risk of not meeting the quality and protection of children, and newborns in particular (…) I want to prevent, anticipate and don’t take any risks“, insisted the minister, specifying that she was counting “to converge the rules of micro-crèches and those of small crèches, but also to allow more than 500,000 professionals to do their job properly”.

This statement from Sarah El Haïry comes the day after the government presented a national strategy to combat abuse, focusing primarily on dependent elderly or disabled adults. Above all, it is a response to the dysfunctions highlighted by the investigation unveiled in April 2023 by Igas, and to the two investigative books published in September 2023, The Cradle Prize And Babyznesswhich notably evoke a race for performance and filling, sometimes to the detriment of the well-being of children.
