The new slogan “No Yes, it’s forbidden” is now displayed in French universities and schools. Between 2019 and 2020, 149,000 students were involved in sexual assaults or attempted assaults. The Minister of Higher Education is launching a major campaign with measures to combat this violence.

“Without Yes, it is forbidden.” A clear message, intended to be displayed in all higher education establishments. The government is accelerating its fight against sexual and gender-based violence, with the announcement of a major awareness campaign among students. Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, announces that the annual budget dedicated to prevention will double, from 1.7 to 3.5 million euros per year.

The objective: to increase the number of personnel trained in these questions. The main student organization welcomes this progress, even if it remains insufficient. In a university that has experienced several cases in recent months, the president believes that training only staff is no longer enough. “We must train, for me, on a mandatory basis, all students who set foot at the University of Paris-Saclay”, says President Estelle Lacona. Between 2019 and 2020, nearly 150,000 students were involved in an assault or attempted sexual assault.
