According to the Scientific Council, 20% of beds in France are closed in France for lack of caregivers to take care of them. Public hospitals are affected first, but not only: home help structures also face this shortage when recruiting nurses and caregivers.
The Ministry of Health therefore wishes to address young people when choosing post-baccalaureate training. The government is therefore launching from this Monday, March 21, a recruitment campaign in the trades ofand health. Several video clips of about twenty seconds will be broadcast from Monday on social networks, to convince them to embark on this path.
The stakes are high, because the shortage is a reality. Frédérique Bérard, national director of nursing services for the Avec group, which provides home help, can testify to this. At the moment, she is trying to recruit about thirty nurses and 400 caregivers: “We are always looking. Home help, home care, is not well enough known. We have no more applications.”

In question: the staggered hours, the arduousness, the lack of recognition and the unattractive salaries. 1,500 euros gross for a caregiver, 2,100 for a nurse. To attract young graduates, the Avec group offers a hiring bonus of 500 euros.
This advertising campaign is also aimed, in a video, at those who are looking to change career paths or to retrain in the field of health.
At the hospital, staff shortages are a real problem. At the University Hospital of Tours, for example, to encourage students to apply at the end of their degree, Samuel Rouget, director of human resources, relies on learning. “It’s something we are developing. We have created our own apprenticeship training centerhe confirms. This makes it possible to have people who are on a work-study program with us, and who for the most part choose in the end to stay at the CHU, with easier job taking up.
The Ministry of Health also wants to develop learning: Olivier Véran announces 10,000 work-study students in the care professions at the next school year, compared to 4,000 today.
