The government finally wants to present an immigration bill in July, franceinfo learned on Tuesday May 9 from the Prime Minister’s entourage, confirming information from the Figaro.

During a meeting at Matignon that day, Elisabeth Borne asked Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, in constant contact with Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor and Franck Riester, Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, to drive in the next few weeks of consultations on the subject.

These consultations will last a month. The objective, still according to the entourage of the Prime Minister, is to present a bill in July, so that the measures are examined in Parliament in the fall.

Elisabeth Borne had however announced on April 26 that there was no “no majority to vote for such a text”, postponing its presentation to the Council of Ministers in the fall. The Prime Minister had also stressed that it was “not the time to launch a debate on a subject which could divide the country”.
