The government will ask the transport and energy sectors to present – within a few months – an adaptation plan to better anticipate temperature variations and climatic hazards, Franceinfo revealed on Thursday February 8. This plan must include concrete solutions to address these issues.

The government wants to push manufacturers, large public companies (EDF, SNCF, etc.) but also SMEs to better anticipate these changes which risk disrupting their economic activity in the years to come. For this, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, and the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, brought together business representatives and unions on Thursday morning to raise awareness of this issue and accelerate this development.

Plan scenarios in the event of drought or flooding

For example, a company like EDF which has power stations on the banks of a river will have to present scenarios in the event of this river drying up. The same goes for private SMEs located in flood-prone areas. In addition to the energy and transport sector, the construction sector is also affected. The executive also promises to set an example and plans to announce this same Thursday that it is committed to looking into the issue of energy strainers in its public buildings.

To make these changes and thus cope with the ecological transition, the Ministry of Finance encourages the companies concerned to use existing funds, whether via France 2030 or the Public Investment Bank. According to the government, in total, nearly 40 billion euros of green spending is planned in the 2024 budget.

Still according to the government, if nothing is done, France could lose between two and five points of GDP (gross domestic product) by 2030, or between 50 and 125 billion euros less for the economy. French.
