It is now recognized by all experts that batteries will be a key component of the energy systems of the 21st century.e century. However, like any major project, Northvolt’s project has positive and negative aspects.
The “change of attitude” demanded by François Legault must come both from the government and from an adequately informed population. To this end, I am of the opinion that the government is making a strategic error by taking privileges to allow Northvolt to escape the process of the Bureau d’audiences publique sur l’environnement (BAPE). On the other hand, if he made all aspects of the project understood to the population, they could take ownership of the file without having the impression that those in power are hiding things from them, a transparency which seems essential to me with a view to a possible social acceptability.
