The Gouffre de Poudrey, a geo(logical) story!

The largest developed chasm in France

In a few figures, the Gouffre de Poudrey is a volume of one million cubic meters, a diameter of 100 meters, a maximum height of 60 meters. Discovered and explored in 1899the abyss is first visited by experienced speleologists, who use a ladder and light themselves with a torch.

The brothers Georges and Albert Vauthier acquired the operation in 1946. But it was their son, Guy, who modernized the place. He does install the metal barriers, create paths to circulate inside the sinkhole, and install lighting worthy of the name.

Guy Vauthier also wishes to highlight the abyss in a different way, through a show, which he imagines: “Music and Lights”. It is always possible to attend by booking on the gouffredepoudrey.com website.
