Real estate: the good deal on country houses
Real estate: the good deal on country houses
(France 2)

Faced with the surge in real estate prices, some houses are selling for less in the countryside. Sales of second homes are thus on the rise, as in Eure

In Touffreville (Eure), a country house has found a buyer. Vincent Favier du Perron bought it for 155,000 euros, or 22% less than its initial price. The price drop is significant for the 76 m2 property, but everything needs to be redone: double glazing, insulation of the walls and floor. The man is planning 60,000 euros of work, some of which he will carry out himself. According to him, the operation remains financially interesting. “For a big country house like that, with a big plot of land (…) it’s still nice”he assures.

In the Eure department, house prices have fallen by 6.2% in one year. Second homes represent 20% of a real estate agent’s sales. For him, these falling prices are an opportunity for those looking for a vacation home. In these areas that are not very attractive to workers, the real estate market has run out of steam. One of the most affordable departments in France is Cher, with an average of 1,100 euros per m2.
