The Golden Knights win the first game against the Stars

Brett Howden scored from behind the net against Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger 1:35 into overtime on Friday to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-3 win in Game 1 of the Western playoffs .

It is the third time in four meetings this season that these teams have gone beyond regulation time to determine the winner. The Stars have won twice in the regular season in shootouts.

“I said, ‘Let’s get this over with so everybody can go home tonight,'” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy joked. I watched the game (Florida-Carolina) from start to finish. I discovered the beauty of being in the West today. When the game ended, it was 11 p.m. … We were able to capitalize on the first try. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it takes four overtimes. »

William Karlsson scored twice for the Golden Knights. Teddy Blueger also scored, Zach Whitecloud dished out two assists and Adin Hill stopped 33 shots.

“You want to be one of the contributing guys,” Karlsson said. That’s when it matters the most. I feel good and the puck bounces in my direction. »

Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson each scored a goal and added an assist for the Stars. Hintz has 10 goals and 12 assists since the start of the season and has scored in four of the last five games. Joe Pavelski recorded two assists and Oettinger made 33 saves.
