For the past two years, goat breeders in Nouvelle-Aquitaine have been reducing their carbon footprint. A winning approach for the environment and for operators.

The sun is barely rising in the town of Château-Garnier (Vienne), and nature is awakening. It’s time for the first milking for Mr. Ressegand’s goats. His herd, he pampers it. Small attentions even in the food, balanced and 100% local. “It is produced on the farm“, says Jean-Marc Ressegand. The dairy goat breeder is committed to a low-carbon approach. He has installed hundreds of solar panels and invested more than 100,000 euros in a hay dryer that preserves plant proteins.

Encourage the planting of hedges

In his fields, little nitrogen fertilizer, he planted faba bean and clover. “Clover has this ability, like all legumes, to be able to capture nitrogen from the air“, he explains. Like about thirty other goat breeders in the region, Jean-Marc Ressegand is followed by a technical adviser.
