While European countries are betting on wind turbines in their project, the North Sea seems to meet a number of criteria. Explanations.
Will the North Sea become Europe’s largest green energy powerhouse? Several governments want to speed up offshore wind projects there. In the UK, the Netherlands and France, wind farms are popping up all over the North Sea. “It’s an area in which we have winds that are very regular. We have seabeds that are quite shallow so we already have a coexistence of projects that will allow us to optimize and make economies of scale on the development of new projectsexplains an expert.
Standardize the production of offshore wind turbines
This Sunday, nine countries posted a common objective: to go from 30 gigawatts in 2023 to 120 gigawatts in 2030 and to 300 gigawatts in 2050. That is, half of the consumption of the European Union. “There is the climate emergency first, without offshore wind farms we will not be able to achieve our objectives”, explains another specialist. The Europeans also want to standardize the production of offshore wind turbines to further facilitate the development of the sector.
