The Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre is without drinking water Friday morning due to a major water main break

The Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is without drinking water Friday morning due to a major water main break that occurred nearby, severely disrupting services offered to the population.

The situation affects the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Cedars Cancer Centre, the Montreal Chest Institute and the MUHC Research Institute, the establishment on X specifies.

The MUHC is asking people who had an appointment at an outpatient clinic or for surgery on Friday not to show up and is ensuring that it will contact those affected “as soon as possible.”

The situation affects thousands of people, hospital spokesperson Gilda Solomone said in an interview with Radio-Canada radio.

Ambulances were diverted to other hospitals.

Radio-Canada reports that the Décarie Expressway is closed to traffic between Sherbrooke and Saint-Jacques streets and that employees of the City of Montreal are on site to try to restore the situation.

Staff members who come by car and who absolutely must go to the hospital must use rue St-Jacques to access the parking lot.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety of patients and staff present in the affected establishments. We are working in collaboration with the City of Montreal to restore the situation as quickly as possible,” says the MUHC.

More details will follow.
