Despite the sporting uncertainty, and 20th place in Ligue 1, the Girondins de Bordeaux announced on Wednesday the extension of the contract of their striker Sékou Mara. Tied to the club until 2023, the 19-year-old has extended his contract for two seasons, until June 2025.
Since his first professional match against Toulouse, in the Coupe de France in February 2021, the striker has made 27 appearances with the professional team, with two goals scored and four assists. He notably scored a very important goal in keeping the club in Ligue 1 last season against Rennes.
A French international hopeful, Mara has played 17 games this season with Bordeaux, for only four starts. He scored just one goal this year, against Angers in August. After Dilane Bakwa (also tied until 2025), Mara is the second member of the generation born in 2002 to extend his contract at Bordeaux.
