The prefecture of Gironde has decided to classify the department in red vigilance for risk of forest fires, “depending on the weather conditions”. Red vigilance (very high vigilance, level 4 on a scale of 5), is active from Thursday July 14 and “until further notice”specifies the prefecture in a press release.

Consequently, the restrictive measures already in force in the communes where forests are dominant in the department have been reinforced: prohibition of traffic and parking between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. on forest tracks, rural paths or even trails, prohibition of logging for these same hours and also a ban on recreational and sporting activities, with the exception of those carried out in the leisure center and around equipped beaches.

This decision was taken in consultation with the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS), Météo France and the Gironde federation for the defense of forests against fires (DFCI).
