Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, located on Île Notre-Dame, will be closed to cyclists for a good part of the summer, in particular due to work to improve the circuit’s ergonomics.
The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD) specified that the planned work, which is currently “in the process of a call for tenders”, should be done in two phases during the summer. Thus, the circuit will not be accessible to athletes from July 10 to September 1, 2023, then from September 25 to November 24, 2023.
The work will notably improve the quality of the surface, in addition to improving the lighting of certain areas of the circuit with LED technology.
“By carrying out this work, we continue to improve the experience and the safe cohabitation of users in addition to correcting the ergonomics of the circuit in order to respect the standards of the International Automobile Federation (FIA)”, explained the SPJD by press release, specifying that everything should be ready for the spring of 2024.
Remember that the circuit will also be closed to users from May 29 to June 24, 2023 due to the F1 Grand Prix.
Until then, athletes can take advantage of the circuit since the bike path, as well as the bike path linking the South Shore and Parc Jean-Drapeau, is open again for the season.
