The Gili Islands in the Indian Ocean have been neglected by tourists since the start of the Covid pandemic. Tourism professionals are worried and must relaunch their activity.
A paradise forgotten by tourists, the islands Gili are abandoned. In full heart of Indonesia, these islands were expanding before the Covid-19 pandemic. “It’s crazy, we are there, but there are hardly any tourists”, observes a bitter vacationer. Previously, 3,500 visitors came to the island every day. Hotels are closing one after the other, half of which have now closed.
Only good news, the animals have returned to the island since tourists no longer come there. In front of this situation economic very delicate, several former bartenders, restaurateurs or hoteliers have changed their activity and have for example become fishermen. But it costs them huge amount of money when they were earning a much better living before. Some take the opportunity to explore the seabed known for the presence of prestigious turtles.
