The gift of your choice

Here is an overview of the suggestions of our readers to our call for all on the gift of your choice.

Peace as a gift!

I would like to offer peace as a gift to Ukrainians! Stop the endless war that destroys everything in its path. Can we stop killing each other? We already have enough problems (climate, virus and other diseases). Is it so difficult to be happy without invading your neighbor? It seems to me that at the dawn of 2023, it would be high time for humans to learn to live together and respect the nature that surrounds us on this planet.

From expert studies to our Prime Minister

I would like to offer mobility expert studies to our Prime Minister François Legault. Before making a multi-billion dollar decision, I invite him to spend a week in Saint-Lin–Laurentides so that he can experience urban sprawl. A nestled place where infrastructure investments have not kept up with housing development.

Rest after a hectic year

I would like to give my granddaughter much-needed physical and mental rest after a year full of pitfalls: separation, moving, slow work and financial difficulties, new school and anxiety attacks for her oldest, water damage with two relocation moves, health issues, etc. I admire his resilience.

A trip to the theater

I would offer my 98-year-old mother an outing to the theater with all the necessary accompaniments given her lack of mobility. She so deserves this great outing after going through this pandemic alone in her home. As I call her every morning, I know she never complained, able to always appreciate the good. She even prepared small dishes to offer to her loved ones. It would be such a joy to give her this present, because she has given us so much of her time and her love.

A gift for the planet

My Christmas present for all of us is to stop overspending until our credit cards are full. Let’s stop feeding this consumer society that is killing us and killing the planet little by little. Let’s stop playing the game of marketing campaigns that try to convince us that happiness is in consumption and instead find the true meaning of Christmas. We should measure success in life by the quality of our ideas and ideals, not by the pile of material possessions. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Forest-dwelling caribou management in the Innu

I would like to give management of the forest-dwelling caribou territory to the Innu without it being possible to have cutting rights from forestry companies or extraction rights from mining companies. So that they can live in an ecosystem that suits them. This would be a good step in the path of truth and reconciliation with indigenous communities. The woodland caribou is more than an animal for the Innu, it is the soul of the community. To protect it would also be to protect the entire ecosystem in which it lives. Besides, dear Santa Claus, who will pull your sleigh to bring the presents if he goes missing? Woodland caribou are so few…

Repair bikes

I would like to return, on a volunteer basis, abandoned bicycles for charitable organizations. The Ukrainians who have arrived here, as we know, are destitute. I would very much like to have the opportunity to give the fruit of my work as a retiree to one or more members of this community affected by an unjust war. Happy Holidays.

A dream gift for the woman she has become

To my daughter Valérie who amazes me every day of her life, I would offer the house of her dreams. She was born functionally autistic and had to overcome many challenges to find her place in the sun. At the time, I couldn’t find a specialist to identify her difference, so with my help she had to endure the jeers of her colleagues at school while trying to figure out why her brain didn’t work like other people’s. . Despite this handicap, she dared to move to British Columbia where she took a course to become a daycare educator. She became a person appreciated by her colleagues and the children with whom she intervened, she married and she raises in a masterful way a magnificent boy who also has autism. She has just returned, after 21 years in British Columbia, to live in Quebec. She really impresses me, I admire her and I’m very proud of the woman she has become. That’s why I would make his dream come true if I could.
