The wait comes to an end on Wednesday May 8 in Marseille, in Bouches-du-Rhône, where the Olympic flame arrived aboard the Belem. Special guest of the 20 Hours, the president reacts to the arrival of the flame in France.
Worn by swimmer Florent Manaudou and disabled sports athlete Nantenin Keïta, the Olympic torch arrived on French territory on Wednesday May 8. On the Old Port of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Marseille rapper Jul then lit the cauldron under the eyes of thousands of French people and the president. Live for the 20 Hours, Emmanuel Macron delivered a first reaction. “I am here among the Marseillais and the Marseillaises and the French. The flame is on French soil, it is the end of several years of preparations”assures the president. “The flame arrives, the Games arrive and enter the lives of the French”he enthuses.
Seven years of preparation
As the Head of State recalls, the flame will pass through more than 400 cities in France until the opening ceremony in Paris on July 26. “These will be the most decentralized games in our history”underlines Emmanuel Macron, “we can be proud”. According to him, there was no real rejection of the organization of the Games in France, but rather of “doubt”. “There is always a France that doubts”and another which would be “impatient”he nuances, evoking a “popular enthusiasm”.
