The French army will begin in 2025 the construction of its future nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. This “floating monster”, as described by the Minister of the Armies Sébastien Lecornu, should cost 10 billion euros.
We do not yet know its name, but the features of the future nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of the French army have already been unveiled. Its construction will begin at the end of 2025 on the Saint-Nazaire shipyards (Loire-Atlantique) and should replace the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier by 2038. Capable of accommodating 2,000 sailors, it is described as “a floating monster” And “a cathedral of technology”, by the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu.
10 billion euros invested
The new generation aircraft carrier is 75,000 tons on the water, twice the mass of the Charles de Gaulle, for an estimated cost of 10 billion euros. The price of power to be able to deploy one’s army anywhere in the world, when less than ten countries are capable of doing so today.
