The FSE-CSQ bodies accept the government’s proposed sectoral regulation

The Federation of Education Unions (FSE-CSQ), which represents more than 95,000 teachers, and the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (APEQ-QPAT), which represents 8,000, have endorsed the proposed regulation sector negotiated Friday morning with the government following a blitz of negotiations.

“The proposed sectoral regulation was ratified by the Federal Council of the FSE and the APEQ,” confirms the group of union members of the common front, in a press release.

When they return from the holidays, their members will be able to read the details of the agreement in order to decide on it.

It is only following this vote that the content of the proposed regulation can be discussed publicly, indicates the FSE-CSQ.

“We had the mandate to concretely improve the daily lives of teachers on the basis of our three priorities which are the composition of the class, the reduction of the workload and the remuneration,” affirms the president of the FSE-CSQ, Josée Scalabrini. We were able to agree on a proposed settlement because we are making progress on these three elements.”

However, there remain several elements of the collective agreement, notably salary, which have still not been determined, given that they are negotiated at the central table of the Common Front with the government.

In a video posted on Facebook, Mme Scalabrini argues that “50% of the way is done” in all of the negotiations.

“Everything related to salary, insurance, parental leave, regional disparity, this has not been resolved,” she mentions, however. And we will have to wait to have these results together. But we can say that we have made a big step forward.”

If these negotiations drag on, the Common Front still intends to launch an indefinite general strike in January.

Meanwhile, the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE), which represents around 65,000 teachers, intensified its talks with the government on Friday and continues its indefinite general strike which has now lasted 24 days.
