“Due to the current security situation, Comtec Group [société en charge de l’organisation de la rencontre]Juventus Turin and Atlético Madrid announce that the friendly match between the two teams which was to take place this Sunday August 7 at the Bloomfield stadium in Tel Aviv has been canceled“, is it indicated in a press release published by the two formations.
The Bloomfield stadium hosted the 2022 Champions Trophy last Sunday between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes (PSG 4-0 victory). But deadly clashes broke out on Friday between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an armed group in the Gaza Strip. The exchanges of fire have already left a dozen dead on the Palestinian side, in what represents the worst outbreak of violence between the two enemies since last year’s blitzkrieg.
For the time being, no announcement concerning a rescheduling of the meeting has been made. Atlético was to play its last preparation meeting on this occasion before facing Getafe on August 15, on the first day of La Liga. Juve will begin their journey in the Italian league on the same day by receiving Sassuolo.
