The fresco deemed anti-Semitic painted on the wall of a building in Avignon was finally erased on Friday morning June 24, according to information collected by France Bleu Vaucluse. A decision made in the face of“insistence” of the prefect of Vaucluse, according to the communication service of Grand Avignon. This fresco, painted on the wall of a building at the entrance to the city, represented Jacques Attali handling a puppet in the face of Emmanuel Macron. The work of the artist Lekto is titled: The Beast 2.

At first, Grand Avignon and the city of Avignon had refused to erase it, in the name of “freedom of expression” and considering that “everyone could interpret the image as they wanted since there are no words on this wall”.

For the Jewish Defense League, all the anti-Semitic symbols were present in the fresco: “The Jewish and influential personality (here Jacques Attali), the disturbing gaze and the hands that operate puppets to make it understood that the Jews run the world.” The American Jewish Committee also demanded that the painting be erased.

Since Wednesday, social networks have seized on the controversy. Some Internet users denounced “a big fat conspiratorial anti-Semitic graf” or “a nauseating message” when other accounts linked to the far right said “kudos to the artist“. The artist Lekto, he did not react. He had already in the past painted the Minister of Health surrounded by syringes and magnified the “yellow vests” on this same building.
