60 m hurdles (M): Kwaou-Mathey in bronze, Grant Holloway untouchable

Good news for the French camp with the bronze medal for Just Kwaou-Mathey in the 60m hurdles.

The Frenchman took third place in the 60m hurdles final at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow on Saturday, behind the American Grant Holloway and the Italian Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli.

The French medal counter is unlocked at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Hurdler Just Kwaou-Mathey won bronze in the 60m hurdles on Saturday March 2, after a race which saw Grant Holloway, big favorite and world record holder, uphold his rank. For his first indoor World Championships, the athlete from Evreux brought the first medal to the French clan, in an evening marked by the terrible injury of Margot Chevrier.

Already a double European bronze medalist

Yet the last time qualified for the final in 7”54, tied with the Belgian Michael Obasuyi, the Frenchman was able to raise his level, coming within four hundredths of his personal best established in Liévin, on February 10 ( 7”43), in a race where only Grant Holloway had beaten the Frenchman. Still ahead of the untouchable American, Just Kwaou-Mathey was also beaten by the surprise Italian Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli, who set the Italian record in 7”43.

The French hurdler succeeds Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, silver medalist in the discipline at the last World Indoor Championships, in 2022 in Belgrade, already behind Grant Holloway. Championship man, Just Kwaou-Mathey adds a gem to his international collection which already included two European bronze medals: indoors in Istanbul in 2023 and outdoors in Munich in 2022.
