While he has made, and still makes, millions of subscribers laugh on Youtube and through his many sketches, Youtuber Norman Thavaud is living through very complicated hours, as our colleagues from Release. Indeed, he was placed in police custody on Monday, December 5 “as part of a preliminary investigation entrusted to the brigade for the protection of minors. He is currently being questioned about acts of corruption of minors and rape, involving several young women”.
The BPM of the Paris police headquarters has been collecting testimonies for several months. Among the alleged victims, fans of the comedian as indicated by the Paris prosecutor’s office to Release. They accuse him of facts of a different nature. This is not the first time that the third French youtubeur, with nearly 12 million subscribers, has seen his name come out in this kind of case.
An alleged victim had spoken
Already, in August 2018, Norman Thavaud was quoted in the context of the #BalanceTonYoutubeur affair. A controversy following the tweet of Lucas Hauchard, better known as Squeezie, who is none other than the French number 1 on Youtube. The one who was entitled to his status at the Grévin museum was indeed denouncing Youtubers who “take advantage of the psychological vulnerability of young subscribers to obtain sexual intercourse”, including, in particular, Norman Thavaud.
As noted by our colleagues from Releaseat the time, the many accusations against Norman Thavaud were “drowned in the mass of testimonies”. But Maggie Desmarais had taken the floor to testify, a year after filing a complaint against the Youtubeur. In a video for the media Urbania she said: “The virtual relationship we had quickly turned into a flirtation. Very soon after our first exchanges, he started complimenting me. Little by little, the photos we were sending each other were more and more daring. It was from there that it became problematic and he was more and more insistent and demanding. He used the right words at the right times; as soon as I walked away, he caught up at the last moment. When I was ready to cut off all communication with him, he would come back to the charge.”
