We left them disappointed by their lackluster Euro in July, and we find them disappointed by a missed return, in front of their home crowd, against Italy. At the Parc des Princes, the Blues had the ball, but for too sterile possession, and finally lost (1-3), Friday, September 6. Everything had started very quickly with a lightning goal from Bradley Barcola in the thirteenth second, but the Italians were then realistic on their few opportunities to win in this first day of the Nations League.
Saved by his bar a few minutes earlier, Mike Maignan could do nothing about the sumptuous equalizer of the Squadra Azzurra (30th), following a one-two between Federico Dimarco and Sandro Tonali, the latter passing the ball back with a pigeon wing for the former, for an exceptional recovery from the outside of the foot. Somewhat abandoned by his defense, the Blues goalkeeper saw his net tremble once again in the 51st minute, on a goal by Davide Frattesi, then in the 74th, on a goal by Giacomo Raspadori. The French team therefore lost its first match of the season and started its Nations League campaign badly. Didier Deschamps’ players will have the opportunity to redeem themselves on Monday, against Belgium, in Lyon.
