An OpinionWay survey reveals that 45% of French people prefer the choice of cremation, compared to 19% for burial.
Without leaving almost any trace of a grave or tombstone, cremation is an alternative increasingly favored by the French. 1% used it in 1980, it is almost 40% today. “I would love to have my ashes scattered in nature”, notes a local resident. But opinions are still divided. In a crematorium, visited by the France 2 teams, the requests are so numerous that work is planned for an expansion.
An ecological advantage
For a burial or cremation, it costs 3,000 euros on average. But with cremation, there are no additional costs like those associated with the burial plot. The choice is more economical, but also ecological, while cremation would have half the impact on the environment, unless the deceased wears prostheses.
