(Quebec) The Minister of Justice of France, Éric Dupond-Moretti, will be in Montreal this week, when he will meet Thursday at the courthouse with his Quebec counterpart, Simon Jolin-Barrette.

During his visit to Paris last June, when he was invited to deliver a speech at the French Academy, Mr. Jolin-Barrette took the opportunity to visit French judicial institutions and to invite Mr. Dupond-Moretti to this meeting in Quebec.
“I think we can take inspiration from the French judicial system, and vice versa,” said the Quebec Minister of Justice on Wednesday, while the Council of Ministers is meeting in Quebec.
In Montreal, Thursday, the two politicians are to discuss the initiatives put in place by the Legault government to increase the confidence of victims of sexual and domestic assault in the justice system, among other things.
During the last mandate, Quebec notably set up pilot projects to create, at the provincial level, a court specializing in matters of sexual violence and domestic violence. France would also be interested in the support offered to victims in the Quebec judicial system, as well as in arbitration initiatives in other cases.
In a working meeting Thursday at the Montreal courthouse, Simon Jolin-Barrette also intends to discuss the measures put in place in France to improve the efficiency of the courts. On this subject, the Quebec minister notes that the French system is better adapted to new technologies.
This visit by Éric Dupond-Moretti – a regular in Quebec, since he is the spouse of singer Isabelle Boulay – comes as he is being brought to France before the Court of Justice of the Republic, a court competent to judge the members of the government.
The world explained last October that he is “reproached to the Minister of Justice for having, a few weeks after his appointment at Place Vendôme, ordered, from the General Inspectorate of Justice, administrative investigations […] against magistrates with whom he had been in opposition as a lawyer”. Éric Dupond-Moretti denies having placed himself in a conflict of interest in these files. The trial should not take place before the end of 2023, estimates the French daily.
