It’s a hot topic in France and the world of football is no exception. Since their arrival in Germany on Wednesday to play in the Euro, the French players have been regularly questioned about the political situation in France. Saturday June 15, it was the French Football Federation which spoke on the subject. In a press release, the FFF asked “avoid any form of pressure and political use of the French team” regarding the early legislative elections.

“Since the start of the week, the players of the French team have almost all been questioned, during their visit to a press conference, about the consequences of the results from the polls during the European elections on Sunday June 9 “, first recalled the institution headed by Philippe Diallo.

“Each of them was able to express themselves freely, according to their own convictions and their own sensitivity. Very attached to freedom of expression and citizenship, the French Football Federation joins in the necessary call to vote, democratic requirement”but “wishes its neutrality to be understood and respected by all […] as well as that of the selection”she continued.

This clear message follows the strong position taken by the Blues striker, Marcus Thuram, who called at the end of the morning to “fight so that the RN does not pass” during the legislative elections, June 30 and July 7. Earlier, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembélé and Benjamin Pavard had also encouraged the French to vote, without giving voting instructions.
