A new epidemic wave is hitting northern Europe. Some countries have taken drastic measures and in France, the situation is under close surveillance.
The figures for the progression of the Covid-19 epidemic in France are not good. According to Public Health France, the incidence rate has increased by more than 50% for a week. Across France, seven departments are below the alert threshold set at 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. “The epidemic is not behind us, we are on the eve of a new epidemic wave. The winter period tends to favor contamination”, analysis Pascal Crépey, epidemiologist, teacher-researcher at the School of Advanced Studies in Public Health in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine).
The government’s solution to this rebound in the epidemic? Respect for barrier gestures, a non-mandatory booster dose for 50-64 year olds, and a mandatory booster dose for over 65s. “It’s an obligation and if we want to continue living normally, I have to do it”, testifies a retiree. Faced with the deterioration of the situation, the Nord department announced mandatory negative tests of less than 24 hours for travelers from Belgium.
