Against the wall, France did not go looking for an exploit in the qualifying match for the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup. Harmony Tan was swept away by Camila Giorgi from the first single of the day, Saturday April 16, burying the French hopes of a comeback. Beaten 3-0 by Italy, after losing the first three singles, on hard in Alghero (Sardinia), the Blue say goodbye to the final phase.
Replacing Alizée Cornet, defeated by Paolini on Friday after having had two match points, Harmony Tan was no match for Camila Giorgi, who had already fallen for Océane Dodin on Friday, and at a very good pace. The French suffered for an hour and a quarter, only managing to register two small games. Too little to afford a bit of reprieve, and push Giorgi, and the Italian team with her, to the decisive double.
After its last group place during the 2021 edition, last November, France left the Billie Jean King Cup again through the back door. She will play a jump-off next November, along with the other beaten, to keep her place in the elite group.
